In 1984, Bonnie Tyler led a choir of white-robed women in one of the best ballads for heroism America has ever heard. Her continuous search for a white knight upon a fiery steed has her asking, “Where have all the good men gone?”
Holding out for a Hero foreshadowed the loss of masculinity in America, something more palpable than ever in today’s emasculated culture. The erosion of manhood over the last three decades created two types of men:
1) those who never developed their inner Kevin Bacon
or
2) those too afraid to release their inner Kevin Bacon
Masculinity is in fact what women need regardless of what they are being told. Masculinity is what makes femininity possible, therefore one cannot exist without the other. To speculate that a human being can be void of either is simply…well, not humanly possible and who would want to live in a world void of either? Our heroes must be developed and mature into Herculean gentleman who are unashamed to be authentic and sincere men. Unadulterated masculinity is neither toxic nor deleterious to others, instead it offers genuine concern for the well-being of humankind, protection from danger and affection for those within their reach. I believe we would all benefit from ending the “man shaming.” I’d like to encourage all men to release their inner Kevin Bacon, and if you believe you never had the opportunity to develop your inner KB then you need to #GetUnf*cked.
